ZF 6 Speed
I was looking on ebay for a t56 for mmy LT1 swap and came across a couple zf6 6 speeds from corvettes (c4 i believe...) I noticed something when compared to the t56...
they are for some reason CONSIDERABLY cheaper than the t56...any particular reason why? and could i use it without problems? what would it take to put one in my car?
i looked up the gear ratios and they looked the same... .76 5th and .5 6th...
Thanks

Re: ZF 6 Speed
They are not as strong as other trannies, they are really expensive to fix, are difficult to adapt because unlike most cars, they use that pull setup on the clutch, rather than the push setup found on most cars to engage/disengage the clutch.

Re: ZF 6 Speed
but the t56 also has a pull setup slave cylinder...at least thats what i saw everywhere... how much torque can they handle? and would i be ble to use a t56 swap crossmember? i also read you can use a t56 clutch and flywheel with it...

Re: ZF 6 Speed
Traviz is correct, they are very costly to repair, and only a select few have parts on hand as well. However, I have heard that they are actually stronger than the t56 in stock form. That doesn't mean the info I recieved is correct though. If I were you, I would try for a t56 before the search for a ZF begins.
Cheers!!!

Re: ZF 6 Speed
The ones with the straight cut gears are stronger then the swirl cut.
Other issue is I remember way back when a guy on one of the 3rdgen boards bought the last 3rdgen/zf swap crossmember, not that you couldn't weld your own.

well they are actually cheaper to find than the t56...on ebay i found a couple zf6 trannies for quite cheaper than t56...that is why i ask...t56's are REALLY expensive everywhere you go...are any parts interchangable? because i have a t56 case... if not, i guess im screwed...gotta save some money...

Re: ZF 6 Speed
there is 20 hours left on the bid...i need to know what it would take to put it in my car...I know i need a custom crossmember...what else? would i need to cut a hole for the shidfter? everything to put it in my car...there are only 20 hours left... i could get a working zf6 for about 300 total...actually 250 considering no one bids on it...and i read that i could use t56 flywheel and clutch setup...is this true? thanks for the info...
