700r4 pulls a little in neutral

Hey all, I've been trying to get around to changing out my old tranny fluid but haven't gotten around to it yet. My car has 90,000 on it and when I got it the tranny was a quart low so I threw in a quart of lucas. It's always shifted hard and pulled good. No slipping at all, even in the high rpm range. I was putting on my new dayco belt tensioner and finishing up some other routine maintenance and I had pulled the car up too close to the sidewalk. I put it in neutral so it could roll back a little and it didn't move. I back it out into the parking lot on the level and put it in neutral and it pulled forward about three feet and stop. If I blip the gas in neutral it acts fine - like it's in neutral. So I take it out on the main road at about 35 mph. I kick it up into neutral and floor it for a second and it pulls just a little. Not enough to drive it that way but I can really tell that it's pulling the car a little. 1. What's wrong here internally? 2. Is my autotranny really on it's way out with only 90k on it? I should confess that I bought the car from an old guy that didn't move the car out of his garage for 10 years. Only started it now and again. 3. Can that ruin the tranny?

Edit: Detent cable has been adjusted. no effect.

with 90,000 on your trans i would be a little scared changing the fluid. you may actually do more damage than good. does your fluid smell burnt? not trying to scare you but sometimes when a trans moves in neutral it is a sign that the clutch plates are welded together. if trans fluid condition is ok i personally would leave it alone.

A slight pull in neutral would be normal due to inherent friction between cluthes and inertial forces. And there would be no advanatge to fitting a 4th gen trans in as the only difference is the 4th gen is electronically controlled but essentially the same transmission.

Re: 700r4 pulls a little in neutral

ok that helps. I don't really drive the car right now so I want to make sure everything is running right and I want to eliminate as much parasitic drag as possible. So in addition to change out all the lubricants I have schedualed a BG flush at gm and I'm going for the new filter kit, pan gasket and fluid too. I'll let you guys know how it goes, if I get any slip or anything after having it done.
