700r4 won't shift

okay, i/we swapped a new motor into my camaro, the engine i got had a flywheel and clutch on it, swapped by flexplate over to it and dropped it in. engine runs great, but now my car will not go in any gear, i've verified that the shifter does indeed mover the shifter linkage at the tranny. my friend loosened a bolt and spilled some tranny fluid out of the trans but he put it back in tight, and i checked it hot in park and it says its full. also, the trans was working perfectly fine before the engine swap, any advice?

thanx

does the car move? converter not fully engaged in pump? if converter not fully engaged might have destroyed pump gears.

it will roll if i put it in neutral, will check TV cable tomoro is it possible that the fluid leaked out of the converter (i found out today thats where my friend loosened a bolt for w/e stupid reason(lol)) and that i just did not give it enough time to get some in there (why it said it was full of fluid even after some leaked out?) umm can the convertor disengage form pump even though i did not take it off or anything, it hasn't been moved since the car was running fine

Re: 700r4 won't shift

If you put a new tranny and converter in you need to atleast put in 1 quart of fluid in the converter before you engauge it in the tranny. And then the rest go into the tranny its self.Looseing one bolt on the torque converter shouldnt let tranny fluid pour out if it is properly in engauged. So either as mentioned before its is not porperly seated and destroyed the pump. Or you may not have had the correct fuild amount in the tranny and fried it on start up. Also if you dont have the the tv cable adjusted properly on the card or throttle body linkage you will not have enough line pressure and that will kill a tranny very quick.

Re: 700r4 won't shift

is it possible that you don't have the right converter?

"If you put a new tranny and converter in" i honestly cannot figure out why you think i changed tranny and converter...

no, its not possible that i have the wrong converter, the tranny and converter are still the same exact unchanged, unmoved stock ones that came with the car from the assembly line, and were working fine before i swapped engines. and they were not removed.

Thats my mistake I thought if you put in a new motor you would have put in a new tranny and converter. And dont cop an attitude that your screwed your own crap up. If you think your smart enough to do a motor swap you should be able to figure out your tranny problems. Im thinking you "A" didnt put enough fliud in the converter and tranny during start up and fried it.Or "B" the converter wasnt seated properly and everything is fubar.

Re: 700r4 won't shift

look i'm sorry i came across the way i did, i'm frustrated okay? aaand what you just said (not the part about me screwing **** up) is total BS the site is for ANYONE smart, dumb, experianced, inexperianced to get help/advice. i, for one cannot afford to replace a (at the time anyway) perfectly good tranny and converter, and also cannot afford to pay sombody else to do the swap. aaand everybody has to start somewhere, so i, with help did a swap. i'm asking for help on the site, not everyone that can help me is free 24/7.

so basically to sum all that ^ up, i'm sorry, and if you think people who havn't done this stuff before shoudln't try and learn your full of ****.

Re: 700r4 won't shift

If you left the torque converter on the transmission, and changed the motor only, it is possible that TC moved forward, and when you installed the motor, the TC was not fully engaged. thias would break the front pump rotor. To see if this happened, remove the bottom line and start the vehicle, and see if fluid comes out of the line. Put a container under the line to catch the fluid. If there is no fluid, the pump is broke.
