You'll need a 26 spline unit for an 84 rear. The Eaton, clutch style is your best bet if you can afford one. Stay away from the Eaton Gov-Loc and the Powertrax/Richmond No-Slip locker units. If you decide to buy used, get an Auburn 26 spline unit. Keep in mind they're not rebuildable though, so once it's shot, there's no fixing it. A Zexel-Torsen unit from a 98-02 f-body is an excellent choice for a used posi. They don't use clutches, so there's nothing to wear out. The only catch to using one of those is that you'll need a set of 28 spline axles from a 90-92 f-body. The Detroit Truetrac is similar to the Torsens(no clutches), and I think they make those in 26 spline units. They're cheaper to buy than the Eatons.

Can you be sure that the rear has your "traction aid?" Prices seem very good.
