T-5 fluid

T-5 fluid
I have an 89 RS Camaro.
It is a 5 speed (T-5) I have not been able to find out what fluid goes in the tranny.
I know it is either dextron or GM's tranny fluid.
My other question is, would it be alright, if it is GM's fluid, if I put B&M synthetic trickshift in it?

Re: T-5 fluid
It hardly matters, as long as it's full.
But: if it's the 1st design, from about 87 back, use 75W-90 synthetic gear lube such as Mobil1; if it's the 2nd design from 88 up (as yours SHOULD be unless it's been swapped), use auto trans fluid of any kind.
If you don't know which kind you have, it's easy to tell from underneath the car.
Top is 1st design, bottom is 2nd. These views are from the front, which will be up against the bell housing; you can kind of see the schmutz line on both of these, where the BH used to be, so that's how much you can and can't see with it installed. Note the front countergear bearing (large round object near the bottom of each trans): the 1st design it is shiny and smooth with rounded edges like an upside-down freeze plug; on the 2nd design it has a dull finish and sharp edges, and the center is depressed, which makes it look like it has a ring around it about ¼" wide.
