10 bolt torque rating
I just wanted to know what the torque rating is on the 10 bolt rears. I want to upgrade it eventually, but for now it may just be cheaper to put a posi unit in it, unless it wont hold up long. So if anyoe knows the numbers, i'd appreciate it. thanks

Let's try to work this from the reverse direction. What do you have for an axle (ratio, mileage, axle spline count, etc) and what are you using for an engine and transmission. It may be easier to say yes/no for your car than to say what the part can handle. There are lots of variables for what an axle can take from an engine.

Re: 10 bolt torque rating
I got the car as an 88 sport coupe, with a TBI 305, a t-5 tranny, and the 3.08 open rear. I've since only changed the engine, replacing it with a 350, and hanging on to the TBI system. I'd say its making somewhere between 250-275 horsepower now. The tranny and rear have 119,000 miles on them. But frankly, 1st gear is mostly useless to me now, because when i hit it, i absolutely cannot get traction and this is what i want to change. the axle spline count is whatever came stock with the car. I haven't touched anything other than the engine thus far (it takes a long time to get money together as a jobless college student). Thats really about all i can tell you about it.
edit:
By the way. I also don't really beat on the car. I don't really do burnouts, high rpm clutch dumps, or try to spin the tires between gears. Just thought that may be another factor in the decision making process here

if youre looking for traction then a posi alone will not help you grab like you want. tires and suspension also play big roles. if you dont beat on the car why do you need it to get traction? it should be fine at light throttle.

well i got 245s out back right now, and i don't beat on it, but i like to put the r*cers back in their place every now and again, but its hard when the tires spin all through first
