Put it in 1st gear; count how many times you have to turn the clutch gear to make the mainshaft turn EXACTLY one revolution.
The difference would be, either 3.something (3.08 or the like, I forget exactly); vs 2.66.

Nice call, Kevin. 1994 was the first year of CAGS. Brilliant.... I have an untagged rebuilt T56 and was worried it was the weak kneed 93. It's not. It has CAGS.
A good check otherwise is like sofakingdom stated. Here's something similiar...
'93 came in three varieties-
'93 F-Body T56s had a 2.66 1st or 0.50 5th.
2.97 1st- 400ft-lbs -3.08 reared cars got this one
3.36 1st- 360ft-lbs -2.73 reared cars got this one
Both of the last two '93 pieces had .80 5th, and .62 6th.
94-97 were all 2.66 1st, 0.5 6th.
Put your trans in 6th gear, and turn the input shaft EXACTLY once. If the output turns EXACTLY twice, then you have a 94-97 piece. They were all rated to 450ft lbs.
Verify by putting the trans in first, and counting how many turns of the input shaft it takes to get EXACTLY one rotation of the output. You should come up with 2.66, 2.97 or 3.36.

Yes, it controls the skip shift feature that forces the driver from 1st to 3rd to maintain good gas mileage. Basically keeps you from speed shifting. Easily defeatable with an inexpensive electronic device in stock vehicles that came with a T56. In the case of a third gen, there was never a stock T56 so there is no computer to activate the CAGS. Nothing to be concerned about.

CAGS is at the top left center of the trans. And it makes you shift from 1st to 4th gear, not 3rd. Its controlled by the 4th gen computer, so dont worry about it with a thirdgen computer. Your biggest concern is making the speedometer work, since the T56 outputs an incompatible speedo signal.

Computer Aided Gear Selection.
You actually don't even need a fancy aftermarket CAGS Eliminator to disable it, a resistor will do too. I forget the restistance though. Although the CAGS Eliminator is pretty cheap and better to resist water/dirt.
Or get a tuner to go !CAGS (if you have a 4th gen or Corvette).
If I remember correctly, the CAGS plug was on the driver side. I had 96 Z28/SS that I used the JET CAGS Eliminator that plugged in in like a minute (this was in 1999, so I'm rusty). For my 99 Z28, I had FLP program it out.

Re: T56 wanna make sure what year it is
I just unplugged mine in my 97 ws6 and all was good. The light would still come on but who cares. I taped up the ends and shipped it. At the time I didnt feel like spending the money on the kit that was basically just a pair of weather connector plugs. The CAGS is non existent in the 3rd gens. the problem is the speedo AND the reverse lockout soleniod which is a PITA sometimes. I love watching people try to drive my car and backup with it. It cracks me up everytime. ya you can wire it up to the brake switch but why bother running unneeded wiring when you can just put a little man force into it.
