Identifying my 700r4

I just had to buy a used 700r4 and the code above the pan is 7FAM182A what I get from it is that is an 87 trans but I am not sure it is a Camaro of T/A tranny will I be able to use it? I have an 85 Z28 TPI 305 with a 700r4 in it.

Re: Identifying my 700r4

As long as it isn't a 4x4 700R4(short output shaft) or a Corvette 700R4
(shorter output shaft) you should be okay. Just swap your tailshaft and
original speedo gears. Even a 2wd P/U truck 700R4 will work, I'm in the
middle of swapping an 85' Silverado 700R4 out of my 86' T/A right now.
I just picked up a used 700R4 myself.

Re: Identifying my 700r4

7 = 1987 / F,A and M are Model Codes / 182 = day built in the year / A = shift built. Measure your tailhousing on your orig one from the case (tail mounts to case with 4 bolts facing front-to-back). The shaft sticks out from that just slightly. Then measure the new tranny tailhousing, The length should be the same. A Corvette tail and shaft are a couple inches shorter and a AWD/4WD is way different. Youll know on it by looking. The F-bodys tailhousing is unique because of the tq arm mount. Other than that its the same as most any other except the ones I listed above. I would swap the ValveBody, TCC Wiring and Governor.
