Dont know much about trannys
I drive an 84 z28 camaro with a 700R4 automatic transmission. I have two questions: to change the tranny filter and pan gasket do I need to remove the tranny mount to have easy access to remove the pan? My chiltons manual says nothing about removing the mount but my best friend who has been a mechanic for over 20 years said I need to remove the mount to have easy access. I know it wont take long to remove the mount but why remove it if I dont have to. My other question is about the govener. The governer gasket is leaking, the cap is not held on by any bolts or clamps it is just shoved in the tranny, so how do I remove the cap to replace the gasket and what type of gasket sealer do I use? My mechanic friend says rtv will not seal the govener cap, I have to use a special seal. Have any of yall heard of a special seal to use for the govener cap? Sorry for such a long post.
I am tired of my car leaking tranny fluid, it really bothers me.

I don't think you have to remove the trans mount. It's been a while since I've serviced a trans on one of these cars but I think you can unbolt the trans and jack it up a little to get the pan out.
Not sure about the seal you're talking about... sorry

You knock the govenor cover off by taping around the edge away from the trans till it pops off. While there is a rubber oring there which is the correct way to seal it you can use silicone if you clean the cap well and the area at govenor put a very thin layer around the cap then put it back on again taping around the edge do not hit the center of the cap . Im not sure of anywhere you could get the ORING except in a rebuild kit.
