Transmisson Problem ??700R4"

1983 CFI LU5 305 700R4
i have rebuilt this transmission about 3 times and im a crab fishr liveing in the central valley of California. I run up and down the coastline. NOt racing just cruising it but now my son decided it was fun for joy rides and ruined my transmission. Now it goes through two gears normally but then i get no acceleration til i hit the throttle wide open and up to the 4500 RPM's and then it shifts into 3rd. ive been thinking of a manual swap but no money. so basically. Wut is my problem or is there another transmission that will fit and work better for me??

Help out please.

So much stress on these gears because of these extremely heavy cars!!

One other thing; if you do end up rebuilding again, don't use the internals from an 83 transmission. You really should use a transmission (or at least the internals) from an 87-94 700r4 or 4L60 as they had a stronger input shaft and all of the GM upgrades to the transmission. Better clutch housings and pistons, better sun shell (you can use a TH350 one as well) and better planetaries. You need a matching torque converter as well as because the spline count is different.

I have had 1988 and 1990 700r4 transmissions get to 250,000 miles (hard miles) that still worked when they were pulled. I have seen 83 and 84 transmissions gone in under 100k...

The cable is right there with the throttle cable on side of carb or Throttle body

The 87+ 700's can be built to be very reliable even under very high hp levels.

Re: Transmisson Problem ??700R4"

if the cable was no connected it will still go to every gear but under normal throttle acceleration it would climb real high up into each gear high RPM and then bam crash into the next gear and bark the tires

under hard acceleration it wont hit each gear so hard but will be a good hard shift

been here done this with a 700r4 with the cable not connected

bought a car this way, an 84 z28 l69 700r4 3.73

i connected the cable and set it and it was like brand new again no problem

shifted and drove like brand new

doesnt sound like what your car is doing though

good luck

Re: Transmisson Problem ??700R4"

Hey there I currently own a 92 RS with the v6 and 700 trans and I'm here to tell you from a personal experience from a 4.3 blazer I had, if that Throttle valve cable isn't right the car won't be right. I'm hoping the TV cable is the problem with my trans in my maro now, and hopefully it's not a bad trans but my TV cable is visibly ****ed up and has about a half inch of slack in it but I PLAN TO change it tomorrow depending if I drive it to school tomorrow I'll change it and make a thread about it, I doubt the 700 in the maro's and blazers are different but then again thats the only reason I posted too!
