4L60E solenoids
Is not third gen related but I would appreciate some insight. Alright I have a 1998 Chevy 1500 that has a 4L60E. After about 5 minutes of driving my tranny will only work in second and third gear. Wether you manually shift it or leave it in auto. Now if the solenoids function like this,
1st..... both are on
2nd.... 1 is off / 2 is on
3rd..... both are off
4th..... 1 is on / 2 is off
a bad #1 solenoid would produce the symptoms I described right? Well How hard is it to replace the solenoids?

yes the symptoms you described can be caused by a bad shift solenoid. 2nd &3rd only bad #1 or 1st & 4th only bad #2. i would replace both since it's easy and cheap.

Re: 4L60E solenoids
Well I replaced both and it still does the same thing. But I noticed something. When I come to a stop it does not downshift. So it just stays in third. I can manually take it down to 2 but it won't do it on its own. I am going to replace the 3-2 downshift solenoid and see if that solves the problem. The guy at the tranny parts store told me it could be the EPC, I think thats what he told me.... I can't remember. Anybody have ideas?
