t5 noise
Ill be driving on the highway around 80 and I hear a high pitch bearing type of noise. I am almost positive it's in the transmission. I just figured I'd ask on here because I know the t5 is weak and im sure at least someone has had this problem. It's on a 1987 gta. Any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking maybe a input shaft bearing or something like that. It's not the rear end because i just rebuilt it with new bearings and gears.

Re: t5 noise
If you had no noises until then i doubt it is the trans. If the noise came or went upon accel or decel the gears aren't set up right or poor quality of gear.
5th gears in the trans would of been loud to start with and gotten louder the faster you went.I hope this helps.

It was there before i rebuilt the rear end and its not a gear whine it's a bearing howl.

Re: t5 noise
Does it go away when you press the clutch in? If it is, its your throw-bearing. If its all the time it could be your pilot bearing. Alot of shops dont replace them because sometimes they can be hard to get out of the crank.
