4L60 questions

I am not much of a transmission guy, I would much rather have a T5 in my car. My setup is a 91 RS that was originally a 305 TBI car. I have swapped up to a 350 + .060 over with vortec heads, GM Performance TBI intake, custom Jet chip, adjustable FPR, and the 4l60 transmission. I just had the transmission rebuilt a few months ago. I had a corvette servo installed, and the guy did some mods to the transmission along with a shift kit increased clutches and a Kevlar band. When we installed the transmission, we put an after market TV cable in (so it does not have the original D clip). The transmission has been doing awesome for the last 4 months, but it now is not shifting like it was. It feels rather sluggish, and it is like it is slipping. The shifts feel much softer, then they were three weeks ago. It also acts like it does not want to shift at the proper rpms any longer, and fourth gear takes forever. The only things that were reused were the drum and the sun gear, even the valve body is new. I am at a loss, and the guy that built it for my is no longer available. I know I have increased the HP and Torque ratings on this car, but I don't see my setup being anywhere near the danger zone for the transmission. Does this sound like an internal problem, a torque converter problem, or a TV cable problem? Or could something be wrong with the posi rearend, and ghosting the problem to the transmission?

If I need to include any more info just ask, I know just about everything about the car since I have totally built it from the ground up.

TIA

Re: 4L60 questions

do you have a tranny cooler on the front of your radiator? Take a look at the tv cable geometry to see whats up. how much power are you making with your setup?

Re: 4L60 questions

I am running a cooler, it runs from the tranny to the radiator, then to the cooler, and finally to the return. I do not know much about the TV cable setup, not big on these transmissions. If it is a motor I got it, but I don't have much experience in this area. This is my first automatic car, I am more of a standard tranny guy. I was supposed to go do a dyno run last weekend, but I want to get this straightened out first. I desktop dynoed it (yes I know, flame on) and it came up with about 340 hp and 370 ft lbs torque. I cant wait to see just how close I am to this.

Re: 4L60 questions

you need to understand the geometry of the tv cable. you could possibly fix this problem in a matter of minutes. If you dont you could wreck or have wrecked the transmission by having the cable set to loose.

Re: 4L60 questions

That is my fear. I am stuck driving it everyday until I get a chance to replace the head gasket on my S10. I do know the cable runs the same way and it is on the same bracket as the stock setup. The cable does look like it has some slack in it at closed throttle, it this correct? I know that the stock cable adjustment, but this cable you have to move a set screw to set idle tension.

Re: 4L60 questions

if you haven't wrecked the tranny and still have the stock brackets in place, get a new factory tv cable. the aftermarket stuff for those is crap. if you end up having to rebuild, bet a factory cable.
