Ratchet shifter operation
I'm about to rebuild my tranny and install Trans-Go shift kit
with stick shift option.
I would like to install ratchet shifter but it seems that all shifters
are meant to be used with full manual (reverse pattern) valve bodies.
I say this because if you read operating instructions for B&M megashifter
or Hammer shifter it says that to go from in-line gate mode to ratchet mode
shifter must be in drive position (or I guess OD for 4-speed trans).
That is good if you have reverse pattern because you are actually in 1-st gear
but for normal pattern you have to ratchet through all gears to get to first
and when you stop in 1st gear you have to ratchet all the way
to D and than go to in-line mode and to R or P position.
It is similar with Hurst shifters.
Does anybody know if its possible to go from in-line gate mode to ratchet mode
and other way arround in 1st or does shifter really have to be in D position?
Or if you know for a ratchet shifter that works differntly!?

Wow, thats kinda confusing. Are you Croatian or just living there? If you are Croatian your English is actually really good! The B&M Megashifter or Hammer can be bought for a 700R4 with a forward pattern and still function as a ratchet. If you are using one, you have to to put it is drive (D for a 700R4) to engage the ratchet function and then ratchet down to 1st before you start. When your car reaches the rpm where you want to shift, you push it up into 2nd and it will "ratchet" up to the next gear without over traveling into 3rd. Then when you shift into 3rd (D) you just bump it into 3rd like you did 2nd. From there I do not think you can ratchet up into OD. I think you have to release or disengage the rachet function to put it into OD. I think that's what they mean by putting it into D to go from in-line to rachet.

Is it possible to skip D position when going from P or R with pulling "trigger" and go directly to 1?

You don't have to start in 3rd (D). You can pull it all the way down to 1st before you start and ratchet up.

Here is C/P from their site:
SHIFTING IN THE RATCHET MODE:
Move the shift handle forward or backward
with a quick firm action until it hits
the internal stops, and allow it to spring
return to the center position. The shifter
is now ready for the next shift.
To switch the shifter from RATCHET
MODE back to the STRAIGHT GATE
MODE, operate the shifter to the Drive
gear position, pull up firmly on the
trigger to engage the STRAIGHT GATE
MODE and move the handle forward to
Neutral, Reverse and Park.

Refer to the shift indicator gear position.

Ok, Here is how it functions. It acts as a straight gate from P, R, and N. When you put it into D you can pull up on the trigger and activate Ratchet mode. At this point you can slap it down once and it will hit the positive stop and spring back just a little. You are now in 2nd. You can do this one more time and put it in 1st. Now when you want to shift into 2nd you can "slap" it up into 2nd and it will hit the positive stop and spring back just a little. When you are ready to shift into 3rd just slap it up again. Each position has a positive stop to prevent overtravel into the next gear. When in 3rd (D) you can slap it up into OD. In order to go back to "straight gate" mode, to put it into reverse or park, you must put it back into D (3rd) and pull up on the trigger to disengage rachet mode and go back to straight gate. Then you can go to reverse and park

You need to remove your button by pulling up on it. It will probably be a bit difficult, but it just pulls up. Then remove the snap ring holding the ball on. At that point the ball will pull off.

question. Is it possible to go directly to 1 from P or R and ratchet up and
ratchet up and down from there, or is it absolutely must to start and finish
with ratcheting in D position?

You can only ratchet through your forward drive gears up or down from 1st to N. It has a safety lockout so you can not go up into reverse when ratcheting. This means you can not ratchet to R or P. The only way to enter or exit ratchet mode will be in D.
