Swap a 7004r for a 4l60E?

My 3rd and 4th gear just went out in my 7004r in a 86 TPI Iroc. I was wondering if a 4l60E was a good decision to swap in place of my 700r4? Or should i stick to my 700r4? I just swapped my 5.0 for a 5.7. And i want the tranny to handle at least 400lb tq. If i did swap the 700r4 for a 4l60e what changes would I have to be made? Or should i just rebuild my 700r4?

my bad i meant 700r4 instead of 7004r

You would need something to control the 4L60E. Your present computer will can't do it. TCI makes a contoller for around $700. You can upgrade your computer, wiring harness to the 12200411 OBDll computer that will also cost you big bucks. That does not include tuning.
So your best option is to rebuild your 700R4

Hi,
I swap my orginal 200c to an 4L60e over a year ago and I'm glad I did. I have 350(5.7) TPI motor and the 4L60e is a good match. Do a search on my user ID and you will find all of the infromation. You may need a driffernt crossmember dependent on which 4L60e that you get. You will also have to change out your starter. You'r need the TCI controller and the cable-X unit. But with the 4L60e you can add paddle shifters to your steering wheel.

I got my 4L60e from GM Perforance Parts. If you have upgraded you engine power, they also have an 4L65e.
