TH200C high revs @ 60mph

hey guys im in the uk so a tranny transplant is not an option before being sugested.
I have an 82 3rd gen firebird
The car goes through gears fine but if you try taking it up to 60 or so its very neer the orange mark before redline, its seems mighty high revs for that kind of speed.
I have tried adjusting the Throttle valve cable but it does not seem to make a difference, cant be 100% sure its going into 3rd gear hence possibly the high revs.
Any suggestions welcome besides condeming the th200c as i know most have bad feelings on this auto box.
30mph it cruises fine with no problems, its just when its due for 60-70 speed limits that it seems way to high, say about 5000rpm.

All the best

Stuart

Car: 4 Mopars total
Engine: Pentastar power
Transmission: T/F and New Process
Axle/Gears: Three 8 3/4's & one 9 1/4
If youre near the redline at 60mph, either the trans isnt going into third, or you have some REALLY low gears. My old 82 T/A with the CFI/200C/3.23 would go around 120 before it got close to the redline. You can install higher gears, of throw in an OD trans. Id figure out whats wrocg with your existing 200 first.

thanks..

thanks for the reply, it sounds to me as though its not going into 3rd gear.
any tips on how to find out what may be the cause ie computer or trans related, i have an engine light on all the time at the moment but this is only due to me recently finding out there was no bulb in the lights place.
It could possibly be down to the o2 sensor not being connected.
Im basicly hauling through the car to find out all its problems.
So far the tranny has been the only problem.

im quite new to the american cars, i do have a haynes but it doesnt seem very detailed, where will i find the governor on the transmisson?
Ive adjusted the tv cable by manually ratcheting the cable through as the throttle reaches its max, it doesnt seem as though its sticking and it pulls and pushes through ok, there is a slight slackness in the cable between the TPS and the adjuster button bracket when throttle is on idle, is this normal or does this mean the cable has stretched, there is an adjuster on the actual tps loop if the slack needs bringing a bit tighter.

Thanks for the replies so far
