another wont shift out of first
Similar to the other post , my 700R4 will select any gear from standing and drive but it will not up shift from first.
i adjusted the T.V cable and that made no difference. i then pulled the governor and that was clean and in excellent condition. i have another 700R4 box that i know works fine but i would like to get to the bottom of this. the fluid is good and at the right level and i even put my governor from my good box into the box in my car and still no joy.???????
any ideas people. thanks for any help i recieve

does not shift at any rpm mate
username the governor is at the tail end of the transmission on the side , its hidden by a circular cap thats a push fit. just get a blunt ish flat head screw driver and pry it out. the governor then pulls out . it does not make any mess at all.
Is the gear at the rear supposed to spin ????

No.It can be accessed with the trans in the car. In the states, the gear is only a $10 part. Hopefully, this is your problem. Pre 88 transmissions were known to shred the gear moreso than later years. I have seen a few 88 and up units need a gear though.

are you talking about the governor gear floor guy, if so i checked that mate and it was in top condition. i was reffering to the sticking T.V valve that in the valve body that a few of the other guys mentioned

i am very inexperienced in auto box's and to be honest i have not got a clue but i presume the valve body is where the T.V cable goes into the transmission ??????

yes the cable leads to the valve body, you will see a plunger that a spring assembly pushes on, driver side of valve body,if it is this, kind of tricky to remove, have to disengage the linkage by unbolting the valve body and turning it to a 90 degree from where is bolts up, so basically the vb is bolted up and you are turning it 90 degrees.

The t.v. valve is on the passengerside. Just below where the cable goes into the trans. Frist try pulling on the t.v. cable to see if it feels like it is moving something in the trans. If not remove the trans pan and try moving the linkage inside the trans and see if it moves the valve freely. If not the valve and sleeve are replaceable. Which would be a good time to update to a wide open 3-4 shift valve.
