What Length Driveshaft do i need
My T5 just went kaput so im going to install a Shortail Turbo 350 into my car, i already have the tranny but i need a driveshaft. Instead of buying a new driveshaft i would like to get one shortened. What lenght will i need from u joint to u joint of driveshaft to fit. Also does anyone know of a vehicle that comes with a driveshaft that is the right length so i can just rob one of those.

what's the length differance in the long and short TH350s? 3 " i think. something that might work would be to get under the car and get a measurement or two.

Well i was just wondering if anyone knew of a pre existing GM driveshaft that would just go right in without lengthening or shortening.

dude, you're gonna have to measure it... there isn't going to be any other good way for you to get the correct size driveshaft on the first shot sorry for the bad news! Call up a place that does them and they will tell you how to measure it so they can size it properly - make sure when you measure it, the rear suspension has the chassis weight on it...

Just got my 84 Z28 up and running this summer with a TH350 replacing the stock T5. The aftermarket TH350 conversion kit said a stock driveshaft from an 82 camaro w/ TH200 would fit. I didn't have any luck locating a used stock one, and I heard they are pretty weak, so I had the driveshaft shop fab up a high performance one for me for $250.
The center to center length on my driveshaft as installed with the TH350 is 44.5 inches (3 inches longer than the stock T5 shaft).
Hope this helps.

this isnt rocket science ppl
theres only three lengths of the 2 wheel drive th350s 69-85 years
6"
9"
and 12"
12" is rare and was only under a few station wagons in the 70s, i have only ever seen one in my life in person,
the 6" tail th350 is the same length as the 200C and 2004R and so forth
come on
lol
you just need an 82 83 200c shaft
if you would have gotten a 9" tail from a truck then you coulda used the way more common 700R4/T5 shaft
you should trade the 6" for a 9" man, if you were closer i would trade you i have a couple nice 9" tail th350s just sitting around and i need a 6" one and then you wouldnt have to change your D shaft
3" is the difference between the two D shaftlengths in these cars
which is the exact same difference from a 6" tail and a 9" tail th350 of course
its common sense
this is very simple
ppl make this out to be so complicated and then i love it when ppl go and get a 6" tail th350 for their 700r4 or t5 car when they should have gotten a 9" tail one so that they dont have to waste $ on finding a 200C D shaft, in which are by no means getting more common to fine
ppl just dont know much about gm trannies, its sad really, hmm
i cant believe how little ppl know about things like this, its supposed to be common knowledge, wow
if you need any more info regarding this then just let me know and ill help
happy swapping

If you use a long tail th350 from a 73-87 2wd pick up you can use your original driveshaft, however if you use a short tail th350 you can use a driveshaft from an 82-83 auto camaro, they used the 200 metric 3 speed auto. (its the same lenght as a th350 short tail). Please be aware that if using a long tail th350 you will need to install a tail shaft housing from a 700r4 to bolt up torque arm, if using a th350 short tail you will need to buy the changeover kit from B&M (contains long bracket to mount torque arm). This can be purchased at SUMMITRACING.COM for around $79.88, part # BMM-30299. Hope this helps.
