Ok all you 700R4 specialists...

First off the search feature blows! , it only came up with a half million threads to sift through and they all contradicted each other...

Ive got a 700R4 in the parts car i bought and want to swap it into my 'turd' when the new motor goes in. I have no idea of what condition the tranny is in other than it had a smashed cooler line and was out of fluid when i bought it.

I want to take this car on a road trip with the buds in a couple months and dont want to chance it with a tranny i dont know. So i want to rebuild the thing so i know exactly whats in there. Now that being said i want to be able to have a bit of reliability behind a motor pushing somewhere in the mid-high 300hp area. Due to my geographic location i am very limited to brands of parts available and shops...

What rebuild 'kits' would you guys recommend or should i go a different route, like pull it apart and just replace this and that?

ahaha i cant wait to do something about my gearing, 3500RPM 60mph/100km/h sucks!!! I cant even imagine how much it would cost to drive this thing 4500km with those gears

Go to Performance Transmissions–specializing on 700r4 and 4L60e
- 700R4 Rebuild Kit-Street/Strip
this should be everything you want or need. If you are looking for a HD kit instead of the Street/Strip, go to Performance Transmissions–specializing on 700r4 and 4L60e
- 700R4 Rebuild Kit-Heavy Duty

Car: projects.......
- first, you need to know what year 700r4.
if you're pushing mid to high 300hp, you're gonna need some internal pieces to make a 700r4 stay together. - At minimum, a Beast reaction shell, and a good forward sprag. You'll have to make sure your planetaries are in good shape. (especially if it was running while low on oil) A GOOD rebuild kit with the thick kolene(spelling??) steals and good clutches. A good band and good servos(minimum vette, but I reccomend billet) Plus either superior or transgo's "shift improver"/ valve body kits.
- if you have decent hp, and want reliable in a 700r4, you have to spend some $.

For the year of the tranny, right now i do not have 100% knowlege of it but for now im assuming its the original for the car which is the older style (pre88?) without the aux valvebody. But before i get into ordering parts i will have the tranny pulled and find out exactly what it is, I know the car its coming out of had all sorts of parts on it from different year cars.
