gm's modified upshift valve

GM also makes a modified upshift valve which it included in police packages and that part # is 8673948 and sells for around $15. This will allow the tranny to shift into OD at full throttle.

Is anyone using this part. I just bought one because of the problem I had with third gear not wanting to shift at WOT no mater what the RPM. I ended up ruining a cam because I did not have a cam button.

the info on this part is vauge to say the least and even the chevy parts counter could not tell me what I was ordering.

Is there anyone who has used this part and can give me the heads up.

ThanX in advance

they also put it in corvettes and irocs.

transgo makes a kit similar to it as well as B&M and sonnax.

ok heres the deal for all you people who might want the police kit for your 700r4

the boost valve that comes with the kit is the medium .471 so I did not use it I have .5 boost

the big key that no one could tell me about is the 3-4 throttle valve, spring and sleeve that should do the trick.

If anyone wants to know what this did for my tranny post or pm me as I will be putting it in shortly

I don't understand what you mean. I listed a full description of parts. You stated in your opening post that it would give wot upshifts into 4th and I verified it would. Others mentioned that the aftermarket also has similar products that yeild the same result. Ask your question again and I will try to answer it the best I can.

saying a valve assembly is like someone asking you what you drive and you say a GM product

The valve body contains the valve assemblies. The gm kit is intended for a trained professional. Therefore the kit contains no instructions. I assumed you had trans experience. I strongly recommend letting a pro do it. If you wish to do it yourself, I recommend you buy an atsg service manual. It has all the info you need to disassemble, identify parts and reassemble the unit correctly. Be aware though, the book is basically reprints from gm service manuals. It is quite difficult to follow. I recommend reading it cover to cover a couple of times. Also different years transmissions have different check ball locations. You will find that the checkballs drop down the driveway when you disassemble the valve body from the case. The book will allow you to identify the year of the trans(in case it was switched with a newer or older unit), allowing you to determine which check ball arrangement and gaskets for the valve body to use. Be aware also that the gm kit includes the 87 and up gaskets. Not the 82-86 style. You are also correct thet the .471 valve (the one I referred to as the .470 valve) does, infact, go in the pump. When you disassemble this, it will shoot 6 pieces, plus a snap ring, to the floor. Take notice to the arrangement for reassembly. The book is not quite clear on this. Hopefully this helps.
Sent you a private message also.

My stock 1983 700R4 shifted into OD at WOT. The 1992 replacement did not. After about 3-4 months of dealing with this, I used the same GM kit to upgrade my 1992 chevy truck transmission in my 1983 G20. It shifts into OD at about 4,500 rpm. At 75-80 it takes about 3/4 throttle to force it to downshift. At 100, there is NO downshift unless you make a manual one.

Shortly after I did the same with my 1987 GMC Jimmy 2.8. It always kicked down from 4th to 3rd to 2nd on this one hill. With the kit, I was able to maintain 70 MPH up this hill in OD without the double downshift.

[QUOTE=jamon8] Sorry but I will not read a paragraph of junk

I see no real reason for a hostle response. I kept my first few answers short, sweet, and to the point. I then Gave a good , detailed explanation with some hints and parts info. Both were done with the intention of offering someone help. At the very least, it will help others who are going to find this in a search.

OK my bad sometimes, I should say most of the time if I do not get the info I am looking for a get a bad attitude

It is something that I am trying to work on. honestly the car is eaiser to fix!

I wanted to know whick valve it was coming in the kit so I could use my helms manual to see what it would do with the b&m tv valve in my valve body.

Floor guy I have to say Thank You for the help and sometimes I would get further if I did not let my cocky condesending attitude get the best of me.

For anyone who is reading this DO NOT TAKE OUT THE MTV SPRING LIKE THE SHIFT KITS TELL YOU TO DO!!!!!!!!

We are pretty lucky in the trans section. We have about 6 active posters who know auto transmissions quite well. Most importantly, Dana from Pro-Built transmissions posts here often. Very respected, high performance transmission builder. Take his advise over all.

Is this in response to no downshift at 100 mph? If so, that is about where the 3-4 shift should occur at WOT and should be normal.
