EATON POSI
HI GUYS, JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS RUN INTO THE SAME PROBLEM I AM HAVING. 3:42 REAR END GEARS, BOUGHT AN EATON POSITRACTION UNIT AND AM PUTTING IT IN THE CAMARO, NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES WE TRY TO GET THE SHIMS JUST RIGHT WE STILL SEAM TO GET A WHINE COMING OUT OF IT. IS THIS COMMON OR SHOULD I KEEP ON TRYING DIFFERENT SHIMS. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED ,THANKS

You may not get them to quiet down then since they already have a pattern worn into them. I did this once. I installed a posi in place of an open rear and reused my gears. I didn't re-shim them either. Just R&R the carrier - slam and jam (this was done 15 years ago before I new any better). They were a little noisy but not bad at all. They were still working fine when I got rid of the car some 50,000 + miles later.
Just got lucky I guess.

I FINALLY GOT THE RIGHT SHIMS FOR IT TO WORK WITHOUT ANY WHINE, EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING GREAT,I DID USE THE PROPER ADDITIVE AND DRIVING A POSI IS AN UNBELIEVABLE DIFFERENCE. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!

That is true. I forgot to mention that my Richmonds were a little noisy at first (they were starting to quiet down as they broke in), then I switched from a 220(80-90W) to a 320(120-140W synthetic) gear lube and there was quite a difference.
However, they were quieting down on their own so did the lube make them quieter? I can't be for sure, but it sure didn't hurt anything to use a better quality lube.
