Rebuilding the T-5?

I did a search, but didn't come up with too much.

I have a 91RS witht he 305 and a 5 speed. I am planning on dropping in a 350in the next year.

My question is this: How much power will the T-5 handle? I want to put a mildly built 350....maybe 300-325hp in my car. Can the T-5 be rebuilt to handle the power? And if anyone has done this, about how much would it be? I already have a good clutch and brand new flywheel in it.

I'm trying to get some pricing. If the engine and tranny ends up being too much, I may as well look for an LT1 with T-56.

This should Help You on your T-5 decision

The primary differences in T5s for both the Mustang and the F-car can be split into two classifications: World Class (WC) and non-World Class (NWC). The term World Class is often thought to be reserved for the best T5s built, but actually there were further upgrades after this nomenclature was first applied. The World Class upgrades consisted primarily of caged needle bearings for First, Second, and Third gears, compared to the gears riding on a solid shaft as they do in NWC versions. The counter gears in WC boxes use tapered roller bearings in place of the standard rollers in the NWC. World Class boxes also use fiber-lined blocker rings on First through Fourth gears to improve synchronizing for smoother shifts. Despite these upgrades, the first WC boxes carry the same 265-lb-ft torque rating as the NWC units before them, probably since the changes were actually aimed at improving the transmission's operating performance rather than its integrity.

Speaking of the T5's durability, this gearbox has garnered a reputation as being wimpy and incapable of handling the power of a typical street machine. In truth, the better variants of the T5 can handle a healthy V-8 just fine--until it comes to full-on power-shifting, particularly with sticky tires. In those situations, the pinnacle of T5 development may be necessary:
The T-56 is your better choice

So I shouldn't keep the T-5 if I end up mildly building up a 350TPI????

Keeping the T-5

If your going to build a mild 350 it would be a good choice,
Here's the problem that I had twice with a wild 350 and two stock T-5's

I have a 350ci motor out of a 96 Z71 Chevy truck,
.030 over
.030 over Badger 12.5 to 1 pistons(hyper)--new
.630intake---.655 exhaust Comp cust grind solid roller cam---(used)
Power Plus Intake single plane3500 -7500rpm(similar to Holley's Strip Dominator)---new
Holley 850double Pumper carb---(used)
Proform 1.5 roller rockers(self align)---new
Top Proline Cast Iron 200 runner heads (2.02/1.60) angle plug---(used)
Hedman Headers 1 5/8 inch 3inch collector
3 1/2 inch single exhaust to Flowmaster 80 series muffler
3.42 gears with stock posi
With this compo I ran consistant 11.48 passes at 126.7mph. I ran this with my stock GTA rims and Nitto Drags in the rear launching at 3200rpm on a stock T-5.
My first T-5 was the one that came stock in my car-a Non-World Class(found in 83-87 TA's & Camaros) The One peice shaft on the lower part of the Tranny Broke, 1st gear, second and Third, 5th gear was the only gear that didn't grind or make any noise. Keep in mind that I ran my 11.48 and other times about 7 times one Friday night alone at the track and the tranny didn't give up till about 6 months later.
My second T-5 a World-Class T-5 out of a 90 Camaro RS lasted a lot longer with the same Motor, it lasted me 2 years until, when I ran a ZO6 and when I made my 1st to second shift the second gear teeth broke.
I've now had my T-56 six speed on the car with the same motor now for 3 years and Ive had no problems
