torque capacity of rear end

I have a question about my rear end. It is a 7.5'" with a auburn pro diff 3.73 gears and after market axels. my question is how much can these little things really take? I have a 406 sb. with edelbrock rpm heads that makes in the neighborhood of 450+ horse. this year i hope to get it to the track. I would like to run slicks, but I'm not sure if i should. I would hate to gernade it after investing all that money into it. Should i sell it and buy a 12 bolt?

384 ft/lbs is the max a stock 10 bolt can handle

Is that the stock rear end, at the rear wheels or at the flywheel?

put a stud girdle cover on it if you haven't yet.

Hard to say but it definately wont be bullet proof with slicks and hard launches.

slicks should come with a guarantee card when your using a 10bolt rear, if you dont break it with slicks somethings terribly wrong!

The auto does soften the blow a bit but a couple of dead hooks and it will be in the passenger seat with you...

How much help would a stud girdle be in terms of adding torque capacity to the rear end?
