1988 camaro 700R4 speed sensor

Ok here the question.. I have just gotten a 88 Camaro with the 2.8 V6 and a 700R4 Tranny.. Im getting a trouble code for a bad speed sensor.. I know the speedo cable is broken.. will replacing the speedo cable fix this or is there another part I should be looking at and if so where is the speed sensor?

Most likely, since the sensor is on the speedometer head.

Cool.. order a new speedo cable.. Now for the next question.. Will it hurt the tranny to keep driving it without that working?
