whats my ring gear size 7.75 or 7.625

how can i tell my ring gear size. i have a '90 IROC with the G92 performance package rearend. the seal is leaking and i was about to replcae it. however there are 2 different seals and to get the correct one i need to know the ring gear size. anyway to tell without opening it up? here in podunkville at the parts shop they only have one size in stock and id like to get the correct seal before i tear it apart. appreciate any help you guys can give.
thanks,
matt

i called two different part houses and they each said the same thing. that i need to know the ring gear size as they list 2 different seals with different part numbers. how can they be the same? im totally confused can ya 'splain it to me? if one is 7.75" and one is 7.625" that aint the same. thats a tenth and a quarter difference.

there's no seal on the ring gear so it's size wouldn't make much differance. what are you buying a seal for?

here is the deal

7.5 and 7.62 is the 10 bolt found in our cars (that is 10 bolts holding the diff cover on

7.75 is the 9 bolt (9 bolts hold the rear cover on)

it's that simple.

sorry i shoulda specified better....the rear axle is leaking....on the passenger side gear lube is leaking from the axel and coming out just behind the passenger side disc brake. so i need to replace that seal. according to the parts place i hafta specify if my ring gear is 7.75 or 7.625.......not 7.5. i was wondering if there was an easy way to tell without having to tear into it without the proper replacement parts. so accoridng to 88 350 tpi all i hafta do is count the bolts that hold the cover on? 10 bolts is 7.625 and 9 bolts=7.75.

9 bolts = 7.75 made in Australlia by Borg Warner

10 bolts = 7.5 or 7.625 (they use the same housing) made in US made by Saginaw

More than likely you have the 7.625 since the last year GM used the 9 bolts was 89
