BEST 700r4 Rebuild kit

Looking at rebuilding my stock 700r4 transmission. Its that time.
I just wanted to know who makes a good rebuild kit that i could do in my shop.

I have only looked at what summit has to offer such as the TCI Pro Super Transmission Overhaul Kits. I am wanting to have a well built transmission that is close to a Super Street Fighter or something similar to handle the power of my twin turbo 355.

So if i purchased one of these kits and bought a rebuild manual i could have a $1500 transmission for around $500 in parts and some of my time?

What kind of power will the tranny handle with this kit?

It says about 550 in the 700R4 Rebuild Kit-Street/Strip #41 kit. On top of the price of $ 486.34 you can pay $94 to HD sleeve & Cryoed forward piston for input drum 550HP & up . Exactly form the site.

What special tools would I need to do this? I rebuilt a couple TH400's in school years ago, and it seemed like the only thing it took were some snap ring pliers.

Yeah, NAPA, Snap On, any place that carrier real mechanics tools (not just wrenches and stuff like Sears). The one I bought was brand new in the box. I think retail they are like $60. I found one on the big tool table at Carlisle the last time I went. That's how I got it a little cheaper.

At 1,000 lbs/ft I don't think any 700R4 is going to hold. I've seent hem advertised up to around the 700HP mark, but you reach a point of diminishing returns. More clutches to get more holding power means the clutches are thinner and therefore wear out faster. It might live, but you would probably be looking at yearly rebuilds.

At that power level I'd say use either a TH400 with a Gear Vendors overdrive, or a 4L80E with a TCI trans controller. Either option will easily take the power and live a long happy life.
