V8 T5 input shaft to V6 T5 tranny.. possible?

I have an 84 NWC t5 that I just broke the case on so I need a new tranny.

There are tons of NWC and WC v6 T5s available at a junkyard up the street from me. V8 T5s are much harder to come by. The lower first gear and the chances they are in better condition than a V8 T5 appeal to me.

I need to know if its possible for me to take the input shaft out of my NWC T5 and toss it into a WC or NWC v6 T5.

Thanks in advance.

well i shoulda searched first.. i still havent found if i can just swap input shafts but it looks like this may not be the best option. I didnt know the gear spread was as crappy as it is.

I still may end up going this route just for ease and cheapness

It won't swap over because the diameter and # of teeth on the transfer gear are different. The gear on the V6 input shaft is smaller which means the transfer gear on the countershaft has to be larger. This makes it turn slower which gives the V6 T5 it's deeper first gear ratio.
That is also what makes it inherently weaker, as that extra torque multiplication from the transfer gears puts more stress on the already weak case.
I'm actually using a V6 case with all the V8 guts (both phase1) transferred into it in my Formula, reasoning that the V6 case hadn't 'stretched' as much as the V8 one was. The V8 one was leaking from the front, where the V6 one isn't. Yet.
