700R4 or 350 Turbo??

Hey im having a hard time deciding on what kind of trans to put in my car. It has a mildly build 355 that is carbed. What kind of trans do yall think i should get. Keep in mind that this is not an everyday driver but it is also not a drag car. I want to drive it around town and not worry about busting my trans. Thanks everyone

I second that. 700s can be built just as strong as a 350 anyway if you needed to.

I third that - there's something to be said for being able to go close to seventy on the free way and keeping the RPM's around two grand - overdrive is cool. Of course, if money was no objection, I'd go shove a GVOD on it and got for 4.10's or deeper...

You could argue that it would be quicker in the 1/4 with the 350's better 1-2 shift, less RPM drop, but unless that's you primary goal.....700r4.

Thanks for all your comments but who can build a 700r4 to take the beating that i throw to it whether it be with the motor or nitrous.

YOU can. If you've got the time and patience it will take a few weeks but you will save upwards of $500.

At first I was terrified of taking anything off of it besides my pan. But after watching a video of it and reading up on it and searching these boards, it isn't a bad job at all.

I just got mine running 2 weeks ago and it is AWESOME. No more delayed shifts and the TV system works perfectly now, much more fun to drive.

I would also say go with the 700r4.

I used to drive my 71 around with the 350 in there and some 4.11 out back.

let me tell you gas mileage sucked. think it was something like 10mpg city and 8 mpg hwy on a good day that was with any motor that car had in it and between the time I owned it and the time my parents owned it there was quite a few motors in there.

and also having that motor rev that high on the freeway doing 80mph wasn't fun I would much prefer having the overdrive gear in there instead
