well, I think!!!!! your only way of getting a t56 to mount on a 3.1 v6 is to spend$$$$$ on the retrofit t56 which is made to use the v8 t-5 bellhousing. and since the t-5 for the v-6 uses the same pattern as the t-5 for v8 I am 99% sure it will bolt right up to a 3.1 v6 t-5 bellhousing. the only other problem is finding a clutch disc with the correct splines as the t56 that fits your v6 pressure plate.
I am sure the rest will be about the same as useing the retrofit t56 in the v8 thirdgens

so noone makes an aftermarket bellhousing for our v6s yet. i need to get me a tig welder then. i thought the v8 was a 90 degree and didnt fit our 60 degree motors.

no, use a t-5 bellhousing that came with a v6 t-5 (3.1 v6 thirdgen t-5 car)
the retrofit t56 should bolt up to that bell housing!

ahh i see, you are talking about the rear section of the bellhousing being the same. thats what i wanted to hear, lets hope its true now. i will see if i can find out for sure. does anyone know any bolt pattern dimensions? and alson arent the input shaft diameters different between the v6 and v8 where it goes into the pilot bearing?

the v6 t-5 fits the v-8 t-5 bellhousing but the clutch disc is a differant spline (there are a few here who used the v6 t-5 in there v8 car )
I belive the bearings are the same inner diameter but? like I was saying though, you will need to find a clutch disc that has the same spline count as the t56 but, will fit your pressureplate.
and the most important thing is the retrofit t56 (not the 93-97 gm one)

ok where is the retrofit t56, i was under the impression that everyone was just using a 93-97 gm unit. also i wonder if i could just switch out the input shafts from my t5 to the t56 or are they different diameters.

you can't swap the t-5 input shaft with the t56 one (it is a totally differant trans for one. second it is part of the gear)
the retrofit t56 is here. http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/BorgWarner/bwt56.html
it requires cutting the drive shaft and some other things. I think that link will say what is needed. the t56 install in our tech artical section has some info on it too( http://www.skulte.com/T56.html )
.
keep in mind they are all written for a v8 so some things may be differant here and there but, nothing I can't see causing a problem.
if your a really intersested in making sure it will fit.http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/BorgWarner/t56pics.html

It will fit, you'll just need a disc made for the right diameter of your V6 pressure plate and the 1 1/8 26 spline hub, the pilot where the bearing goes is the same, that aftermarket setup will bolt to the bellhousing fine, just reversing what those of us running V6 T5's behind V8's have been doing for a long time.
