will this 10 bolt hold up
Ok i have a question. I was wondering if my 10 bolt rear will hold if I beef it up. I have my 383 with around 500hp/500tq. and a rebuilt 700r4. Everytime i wanna get on it hard i just know my rear wants to give. Now here this thing. I want to get the Moser 28 spline axles, part #MSR-A28CST which are the strong NHRA IHRA axles then also the Eaton posi, part #ETN-19599-010 and keeping my 3.73's. I'll also put on the strong rear end covers. You think this setup will hold? Is there a different posi carrier that is better and possibly cheaper? Im trying to keep my 10 bolt housing but beef it up to hold the power. I know some guys have done it. Any input please....

ill be crusing around town mostly with it and then sometimes smash on it. Also take it to the track when i can. I forgot to mention that ill be getting some slicks for it so i will be hooking up when i apply it. I have a 3500 stall if it means anything. Beside the products have warranties so if anything breaks i can just send them back right?

First, I guarantee the warranty only covers manufacturers defects, not destruction from racing.
While the Eaton posi is stronger, you'll still grenade it with enough hard launches at the track on slicks. Just a matter of time before it goes. If you don't want to worry about the rear, hold out on the axles and posi until you can get a 12 bolt or 9" so that you don't have to worry about it. The 10 bolt will hold it for a while, especially with the parts you are looking at, but by the time you've got those you're well on your way to the price of a better rear.

yeah i figured the money i would put into it i just mine as well save up a little more and buy those "bolt in" packages from moser and currie. I seen the complete package from moser for around $1600 and the "bolt on" 9" im still looking for. What rearend swap should i do? Could i get a 12 bolt from an older chevy? i just dont to do much cutting and welding as i can and try to keep it as close to bolting in.

This post is near and dear since I'm in the same predicament. Good thing I get no traction with a one-legger 3.73:1 rear, because if it hooked, I'm afraid I'd twist or break something...possibly the torque arm.
That's why I'm considering getting the Jeg's one that bolts to the driveshaft tunnel instead of mounting to the trans tailshaft housing. It's gotta see stress on hard lauches. Just seems like a good idea to me.
As far as rears go, I'm just savin for a Moser or Currie probably.
Your 10 bolt posi will hold up fine with 500 hp. - But it won't with 500 tq.!!!
I think by the time you bought the rear, had the welding done, figured out how to mount the torque arm etc. , you could just buy an aftermarket kit and be done with it.
Different story if you're handy at welding and have the tools and space to do it yourself.
