T5 Input Shaft Length vs. TKO
Guys, I've finally got a close-ratio TKO 600 on it's way to replace the V6 T5 in my ride. Anybody got a T5 sitting on their garage floor that they can measure up the input shaft length?
I'm interested in the dimension shown in the attached drawing that measures 6.60" on a GM application TKO. Apparently F-bodies have a longer input shaft than older 4-spd GMs like the T-10 and Muncies.
Hoping someone has a T5 to measure up for me... And anyone that's done this swap feel free to throw your 2 cents in as well!

I'm pretty sure the tko uses a longer input shaft on the f-body because of the adapter plate neccessary to mate to the 17 degree offset of the bellhousing, as the tkos are manufactured to mate to a standard t10/4speed bellhousing.

Okay... That makes sense. I'm pretty sure my TKO is coming with a standard length GM input shaft, and I don't intend to use the spacer/adapter - so I'll have to replace the factory bellhousing then.
I thought I saw some factory bellhousings that were drilled and tapped for both a T5 at 17 * as well as the standard T-10/saginaw/Muncie flange. Perhaps I was hallucinating.

are you putting the tko behind a v6 or a v8? Your 1st post said you have a v6 t5, didn't know if you were running a 10 spline clutch behind a v8 or what, just wondering.

It's a V8 engine up front, currently driving a V6 T5 transmission. The clutch is a custom-built job, using a 14-spline hub with the larger 10.5" disc fit to it.
Of course I'll be replacing that disc with a 26-spline to work with the new trans...

cool, just wondering how you were running it, interesting. I was gonna run a TKO-600 but the ones with the 5th gear I wanted were on back order, so i went with the viper t56. Nice choice on the tko, it's pretty solid.

I ordered the so-called 'road race' box with the 2.87 1st and 0.82 overdrive, I prefer the gearing to be grouped together tighter. It's actually close to the factory V8 T5 gearing, but without that steep O/D.
The V6 box in the car right now has the nasty 4.03 1st gear but it works okay with a torqueless overcammed 283. I've got a 355 on the stand that will be fairly conservative to make lots of useable torque.
