getting bigger engine time to swap out the t5?
i have an 86 trans am 305 w/ t5 tranny. i'm gonig to invest in a new crate 350 that claims 260 hp 360 torque & i kinda dought the t5 will hold up. is there anything i can do that won't toast my wallet? o yea automatic is out of the question, a v8 w/ a stick is the closest to heaven i have come -thanks

Engine: 389 CID TPI
Transmission: TCI 700R4
Axle/Gears: 9 bolt 3.23
I beleive the T5 is rated to 340 TQ, so as long as you aren't doing a lot of power shifting it should hold up for quite a while. Mine lasted 4 years behind a 365HP 400TQ 350.

good ***, 89warbird i am getting hard from just looking @ your car, but do you have to deal w/ smog? thanks for the advice, i am going to just have my t5 rebuilt

Yes we have to deal with some smog, but no sniff test. My car is 100% emissions legal, for the record. But, whenever I take it in to get it checked they never check anything, they just gawk at it and ask LOTS of questions. EVERYONE in the shop always wants to take it out for it's road test.
