T-56 Leaking from rear?

I just finished installing my T56....I have the shifter off so I could pour the tranny fluid through there. There is a hole about 1/2 inch in diameter looking straight down. As I was pouring the fluid in, I could hear it quickly hitting the floor underneath, crawled under the car, and saw it was leaking at the tailshaft of the tranny. Im assuming its the rear seal.....is there anything else it could be?

try and see if it is comming from where the drive shaft goes in or if it is comming from a hole like where the speed sensor goes or even if the rev. lockout is not fully seated in the hole (check the o-rings on the sensor and the lockout too.) those are all in the rear tail housing

it is definetly coming out and over the black seal around the tail shaft....right where the driveshaft yoke would slip in.

well, that is the seal. I belive it is all one piece:shrug: but, if it is leaking that fast it is not in all the way or has a good rip in it

If the driveshaft yoke isn't in there's nothing for the seal to seal against. Follow JMD's advice.

yes it was just the seal. I snapped my old driveshaft so I had just the yoke in the tranny. The old seal had sort of a dust cover looking thing on it....the new one does not...this shouldnt matter right?

the chrysler style "foreskin" seal came factory in the T56. The flat GM seal works fine too.
