No kidding...
I've been waiting to find out if anyone was going to do these. Beats rebuilding my 10bolt so that I can crater it when the rest of the drivetrain is done.

At this point I have ceased building anymore rears and sold all of what I have already built. There was considerably more demand from the fourth gen crowd on these which is understandable seeing as in stock trim on sticky tires they possess enough umph to snap a stock ten bolt.
I would still be interested in building more but after trying this out there certainly is not enough demand to support the costs of becoming a full on site sponsor which was my original goal. About the only option left is if someone wanted to organize a group purchase of ten or more then a short term sponsorship deal could work out. I also have at this point dropped interest in doing complete build ups and would rather make just bare housings as getting the parts shipped up here and the extra weight shipping them out would forces the price up to uncompetitive levels.
Regardless for now I am done with going any further with the 8.8 with respect to building and trying to sell them. I have attached a link that covers the process of this from when I last posted here with names of the guys who are now running one of my rears and there is some more pics there for anyone curious. ( mods/admin if this is unacceptable let me know please and I will edit it out but it is informative )
I also would like to say thanks to Thirdgen.org administration and mods here for a little breathing room to let this thread grow.
As for my poor car?.... I still gotta get that dang LS1 in and running. Too busy to get one good day on the car in the last three months. Anyways thats the full skinny.
See you guys on the boards

Cool, thanks.
I believe you're "cam" on there. My handle is the same (KenV). See you there!

Edit: Are you still going to do bare housings? Above you wrote about doing ONLY housings but on LS1 you posted that you're done with all of it. Just checking no so that I don't waste more of your time. Thanks.

I'm done for now. Too many other things going and these rears are soooo much work its just not worthwhile to onsey twosy here and there. Setting up everything is half the work and so unless someone organizes a large order then yes these are over and done with.

Also i'm asking about bare housings, hopefully, if it helps any I can get the axle tubes and brackets, would you be able to cut 4th gen ones down to the same length to use them and make thirdgen width axles ? If so that would be awesome I could come up with enough axle tubes in no time for a run of 5.
Heck if I had to i might even be able to get ahold of the ford centers for you, but I would prefer to just get the axle tubes if this helps.

Cores certainly help speed up the situation and yes I can use fourth gen cores to build third gen width rears but ten is pretty much gotta be the minimum number for which I could fire this back up again anytime soon. It doesnt have to be ten of one width it could be half and half but ten in total minimum its gotta be. I have pulled as many favours as I can to get this far and to build anymore admin needs their cut and these guys gotta get a weeks work of it and actually get paid this time round.

I'm subscribed and watching, thanks for reconsidering roc. BTW I apologize if I have stepped on any Admin toes by responding in the affirmative.

Howdy folks
Cruising around and thought I might as well update this thread. My car was down all season for LS1 swap so my diff held up fine
Seriously though one of the guys who bought one of these ran over 250 passes this season in his LS1 fourth gen. Trans braked 1.3x 60' launches on the spray floating the wheels 8" in the 10.20 range. Last summer he ran high tens 1.4x 60' again for 150 passes or so. He sure seems to rave about the 8.8 everytime I talk with him but this coming season hes talking about building a meth injection procharged set up in search of deep 8's so BIG step there if he goes for it that will indeed put the 8.8 to the test.
As for future builds? I could get back into it but would be on a group purchase order of some kind for at least 10 and I'm pretty much only interested in housings not assembled rears.
To add more info while I had the diff out of my car this summer I made further improvements yet again to the torque arm mount. The pics in this thread are my first housing that ran in my car just fine. The ones I sold had improved bracing and the new design is better yet. To offer cost savings if you currently have a 9 bolt I can use your 9 bolt axles and save the cost of new bolt on housing ends.
Considering the pounding they have withstood and the upgrades in design I am very confident in the overall strength so I would also offer a housing breakage no charge replacement for one year on cars down to 10.0 Keep in mind thats housing only if you have internal failures your on your own but if the housing were to fail I would look after you.
Still I'm getting waaaay ahead of myself here I dont even know if people still want these and I only have a few cores currently and as I said unless I get an order for ten or more its too much hassle to onesy twosy I just thought I would update the progress
