Whys it do this?

When the gas pedal is floored the car stays in 1st until exactly 5k rpm then the d00d shifts with a loud squeel(from the wheels).

When on anything except WOT the car will not do this, why when WOT?

Huh?

Not a trans. expert but the shifts at WOT are firmer because there is more line pressure. A stock one shouldnt chirp the tires at WOT unless youve messed with the tv cable or put a shift kit in. At part throttle, the car shouldnt do any harsh shifts as its hard on the transmission, not to mention it makes for an unpleasant ride.

well at slower soeeds it seems to shift harder, but i did readjust the cable and it shifts not as hard now but still hard, thats why i think i got a shift kit.

But why does the engine gotta rev to 5k then the tranny shift?

If youve messed with the cable then thats why. Reset the cable by the recommended method of full tension at WOT and see how it works then.

Edit: Even small stuff will ruin a trans when it comes to the TV cable. Want it to be set right...

in response to your last post...heres a tip...

loosen the TV cable all the way,so theres slack in the cable, then drive around like you stole the car,it'll shift early and really soft! problems solved...

btw plan on a new trans or a manual swap!!

No... It will over-adjust by that method. Want to set it manually. Do a search on the trans board and it should bring it up.

Ok, all that you have to do is open up the throttle all the way, press teh metal tab and pull the tv cable housing toward the firewall as hard as you can (within reason, of coarse) and release the tab while still holding the throttle open. It may ratchet out a click but if it comes out alot then youll need a new cable. Close the throttle and thats it... Leave it set that way and that will provide the best results.

Okay therckid,
Not here to rag on you but you had two threads on the board in the last week or so about your transmission. First this one.

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=245108

And then a few days later you posted this one.

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=245431

And now you have this thread. Don't you think it is time to listen to what some of these people have been trying to tell you and get the transmission fixed.

im confused, is he saying only when he floors it that the trans doesnt shift till 5000 then chirps the tires.

What exactly is unusual about that? Thats right around where my tranny shifts when i floor it and obviously when you dont floor it its not going to shift as hard or at 5000 rpms.

EDIT: or is he saying it always shifts at 5000? If its not shifting properly it could be your front pump is having problem. It could also be one of about a million other things that youre never going to figure out unless you take it to a tranny shop.

And in response to the next post that i see coming. "well i dont have the money" Yup that sucks neither do i. Thats why i have an old 700 with 170 000k on it that im swapping into my car in my garage. Cars cost money and there is not going to be any way to fix your problem without either getting a new tranny or paying to have this one fixed.

ya but his usual excuse is i have no money d00d's. Regardless from the sounds of it this thread should die. Take your car to a tranny shop because no one else is going to be able to help you.

He showed me how the end, the part near the throttle body, was spintereD(where like 3 threads had broken off) showed signs of extreme tension in previous use. Which means that the came is most likely stretched in someway so that it'd be best to replace the wheole thing.

some thing along the lines that it might be nice to also do some other basic mantainance to my tranny while hes doing that he said. Gonna chnage that tranny fluid, and all kinds of stuff.

You arent going to change the cable and fluid and filter yourself? You need to learn to work on your own car, d00d.

hmmm, that just makes it even worse. So you are saying that you are lazy? Man, take a little pride in your car. I have personally rebuilt or installed virtually everything on my car. I think that at this point the only stock system on my car is the brakes, and I have replaced half of it with new. If yo uare gonna take your car to a shop everytime anything needs done, why not just go buy a honda? Or have your parents buy one, as seems to be the case.

i've changed the fluids and stuff. I usually do it myself. But... the TV cable is something i know nothing about, therefor not even capapble of trying. I am installing my headers myself(with a bud's help) but thats it. He just said he'd change fluids.

You got to try it before you can say that you know it. Try doing more yourself, and you will be suprised at just how much you are really capable of. I do everything within the limits of my tools, or tools I can get. Basically if it needs a machine shop, I dont do it. Other than that, there isnt anything you can't do.

Yup, When i had my pos 2.8 and the head gasket went i wasnt sure how to do it., I asked lots of questions and the fellow members here helped me through it.

Same when i did the v6 to v8 swap.

Theres always someone here who can help.

BTW the tv cable isnt hard to do. Go buy yourself a tech book on your car and read it. You can do it!

Took me two tries before i got mine adjusted correctly.
