New transmission pan...difficult bolt access

New Summit 1008R trans pan on my 700r4. My trans. crossmember is in the way of me getting to one bolt. Can I just leave this bolt out?, or am I looking at jacking up the tailshaft of the trans. and unbolting and moving the crossmember out of the way?

If you leave even one bolt out, the trans pan gasket will not seal properly and eventually leak from that area. Sorry.

Disconnect the trans. mount and jck the trans. up. Then you can get to the bolt hole.

Use a wrench to get to that bolt instead of using a ratchet.

Darn...ok

Use a wrench to get to that bolt instead of using a ratchet.
I'm not that stupid

It's in a weird position. Can't get to it with either one. bolt too long to get to it with wrench...head next to crossmember, and socket can't fit between ratchet and pan. I can't even pry it enough to make room.

Disconnect the trans. mount and jck the trans. up. Then you can get to the bolt hole.
easier than removing the crossmember?

Yes, you remove the nut from the trans mount bolt that goes through the cross member, place the jack under the end of the tail-shaft and it will jack up two to three in. Enough room to get the bolt in through the pan. You'll have to reach over the top of the cross member. When that's tight, you lower it back down, re-install the mount nut and your done!

Got bolt in, thanks. Didn't recall that tranny mount was bolted to crossmember.
Everything went fine till I decided to bolt the mount nut back on at 70 ft-lb on my torque wrench. I took a guess based on how hard it was to get off. Wrong decision. Broke that baby right in two. Just rejack it up and replace, correct?
I'll look up torque specs this time.

Yeah, should be holes through the crossmember to get socket on bolts going into trans. Sounds like it was about worn out to begin with. Either that, or your arm's are bigger than mine! Remove the nut first, then the bolts into the tranny. I don't think you would have been able to break a new one like that. If you remove the nut first before you jack it up, the weight of the trans will help hold the mount still till you get it off. Save nut and bolts as you will need them for re-install. Sorry for the misfortune but at least they don't cost much! and now, you'll have a new one that will probably last the rest of the car's life!
