Transmission buildup

I don't know much about transmissions or even what they look like inside for that matter, just interested in learning something new. Anybody know where I can see pictures of the inside of a 700R4 and what parts are replaced when a rebuild is done?

I wish I had taken pictures when I rebuilt mine.

I thought that there would be 2.5 million pieces that would go "SPRONG"! when I opened it up. But it was not that bad at all. I had to make a couple of tools to get the job done but it was worth it.

Basically, if you have ever seen a clutch out of a motorcycle, auto transmissions have several sets of these type of clutches inside.

In my TCI Racing Overhaul kit, there were clutches, steels and seals. There was only one bushing in the kit, however there are a lot more in the tranny, they just give you the most common one that wears out.

If you are that interested, then go to the bone yard and pick up a junk 700R4 and tear it apart and rebuilt it.

I have the ATSG manual and photos taken during the installation of a level three Raptor master rebuild kit. If you'd like the diagrams or some of the photo's let me know. The picture of the tranny and all of its guts around it might scare you. The count is more like 30 mil.

yeah, i have some pictures of mine a some other stuff on my picture site.

link

i've also got alot more if you need something specific for pictures. i build them myself and in my personal vehicle i have:

1991 4L60
raybestos blue plate clutches
koelene steels
kevlar band
4L65E reaction carrier asssembly
upgraded sunshell kit including upgraded reaction carrier shaft
superior products shift correction kit
.500 boost valve
superior products billet super servo
superior products 3-4 billet servo
w.o.t. throttle valve shift sleave
superior products larger low/reverse boost valve
13 vane pump kit

that's all i can remember off hand. recently broke the reaction carrier (in the pictures also known as a planetary set) and at that time i did the sunshell kit upgrade along with the much stronger 4L65E (machined steel instead of cast iron) reaction carrier assembly. pretty happy with it overall. i wouldn't recomend the kolene's with the blue plates as it will wear them out quickly. i'd go with the 8 place rcpbp-15 clutch plate set which comes with the blue plate clutch kit including 8 3-4 clutch set up and all the steels they have specificly for the blue plates.
