Original Shifter won't fit?!
My car is a 88 350 TA, the transmission came out of a 86 305 TA. I had a Hurst Shifter installed and changed that thing today with the original shifter. I found the following problem:
With the original shifter I can shift from OD in R without the shifter being locked. Meaning I can switch to R while driving without unlocking. Everyone else I asked has to unlock the shifter from N to R - Not me. This can't be right?!
When I look at the shifter and shift it into N, the shifter _cable_ is in the Park Position!
Can this cable be mis-adjusted? Or too long? Or could it be changed to fit the Hurst Shifter? That shifter had a much longer way in shifting.
The only thing I can think of right now, is to take a dremel tool and 'create' a lock-up where it should be, from N to R.
I hope anyone understood this, if not, ask questions. I'm really curious about what this could be.
Thanks
Grace
