question about slp take-out posi

ok my rearend on my car is craping out on me, i can still drive it fine but it makes a loud howling sound while driveing, i've been told that it is probably the carrier bearings. anyway i have been planning on buying the take-out posi from slp and also buying a 3.42 gear set to up grade from my 2.73's and my question is does the slp posi come completely assembled? i don't want to have to buy other parts for it. also if anyone could give me some estimates as to how much it would cost to have it installed and if anyone could recomend a place to have it done at

slp carrier is complete, less ring gear. figure 3 hours labor, or less to do the swap

You are going to want to buy an rebuild kit for your rear end. It is not a good idea to re-use stuff back there.

i wouldn't buy a install kit, only thing you're going to be able to change without making lot more work is the carrier bearings and it isn't a big deal to reuse them if they're good.

Will the SLP take-outs fit in a 2 series carrier posi 10 bolt?

Yes.

Take out the 2-series one-wheel-peel carrier and the 2-series gears, and throw them away; put in some 3-series gears, and the SLP posi 3-series carrier.

That's assuming of course that this is a 90-up rear end (with 28 spline axles).

no the slp posi won't fit in a series 2 carrier, it is a carrier. it'll fit in a 7.5/7.62 ten bolt housing in place of a 2 series carrier

That makes more sense. Only problem now is mine is a 88. Guess that means it still won't work. I'm probably just going to put a set of Richmond 3.42's in place.

BTW, its posi, not 1-wheel-peel.

No your stock carrier is a one wheel peel. The take out is a posi.

Did you make it posi? I am pretty sure that there was never a GM 2 series posi for those gears.

I didn't think it was until I pulled it out. We counted turns and tried to counter rotate the axles. Its limited slip. I posed a thread about it, tons of people replied saying that its common. I don't know why you would bother with posi with a 2.73, but who knows. It had bad wheel hop during a burn out, but it would do dry pavement doughnuts, so I guess it makes sense.

slp ran out of take off posi units.

Figures, I was looking at them on wednesday and had my credit card out ready to order them yesterday only to find them missing from the webpage. I called em and they said they ran out.
