R.I.P. Zexel Torson Diff

I guess we pushed the Zexel Torson diff too far. We finally got the wheels up on launch with the Camaro and the diff is making noise. It actually ran a decent ET but loud noise a hard pull toward right. Now it only spins Passenger side tire. Drivers side free wheels. Axles appear to be okay, ring and pinion feel smooth. Think it is likely internal to diff. only.

Do not take this as a knock on torsen diffs. We really abused it with slicks. It has withstood over 100 hard launches behind a modded 305 and then another 30 behind a strong 350. If it had not hooked so well, the diff would have been fine. we use a 3500 stall converter and launch anywhere from 2500 to 3000 RPM. The previous limited slip out of a Bravada only lasted 30 passes with cheapo Nascar tires behind 305.

If it was a street driver, I would no hesitate to use one again. It is funny, all the Camaro guys at strip said it would break a pinion, gear or axle first. I should have taken odds. I will sell rear girdle cover, 4.10 gear set and 28 spline axles on E-Bay to help offset cost of 9 inch I ordered this morning.

Torsen diff was losing little pieces of metal off gears, worn gears were black and blue. Everyting else was fine, even bearings were good. Putting all good parts on ebay today.
