I love Yukon gears. I've bought and used three sets of them in the last year. The price can't be beat for the quality. I've never noticed any apprecible noise with gearsets of 3.73 and below, above and they tend to whine a little, but I've never heard a set of tall gears that didn't, particularly in low gears in the trans.
Get the Yukon install kit too (master overhaul). The manual is a bible of rearend info too, and it's free with the gears or the overhaul kit.

AFAIK that's a private label, of Randy's Ring & Pinion http://www.ringpinion.com
I've never used them but a number of people here have, with mostly good results; and, they've been around kind of a long time; so it's probably a safe purchase.

It used to be right around $400. Which is one helluva deal! And I heard that included all timken bearings and seals in their master overhaul kit. I even heard it included the axle bearings and seals too.
But do me a favor when you call. Ask them the tooth count. I'm curious to know if their 3.73's are a true ratio or are really a 3.70 ratio. Precision Gear/Reider racing advertises 3.73 and they're actually a 3.70.

from what i gather 3.73 is preferred due to increased strength correct? however if you said redier/precision (the other option for me to get the gears from) is also 3.70 it doesnt seem like we have much choice. ill ask for ya though. and for what its worth the gears were $299 and the master overhaul kit was $119.95 from redier when i called last month, so the price seems to be roughly the same. reider made sure to tell me that their gears (precision) were noisey. thats why i have decided to more than likely go with the yukon's. from what i hear no noise, and good strength. thanks dwain!

U.S Gear/Strange also makes 3.70 gears for 9bolts, but the other vendors who carry them are generally as high or higher than everyone else. I bought a set from Jegs for 296 a few years ago. If I were a betting man I'd put a big wager on the fact that all the 3.70 gearsets made over here, are made on the same machines at the same place. GM used 3.70 geared in some 5 speed 305 H.O. cars in 85 & 86 (were talkin' needle in a haystack to find one of those rears!), I think they were only in firebirds.
AFAIK, Miles was the only vendor able to get actual 3.73's or any other ratio's for that matter....and that's because he had some connection from the land of 9bolts (australia).
I've thought about getting into the 9 bolt parts business, but it's risky. And it takes money, which I don't have enough of!
I know the first person to make and sell ring gear spacers so the 2 series guys can use 3 series gears will sell quite a few of them.

on their website they seem to also offer 2.56 and 2.73 ratios for the 9 bolt. but for the most part (i know in my case) we have the 2.77 and want to upgrade. so the only 'better' ratio they offer is 3.70

man i wonder if they know how much cash they would make if they made 3.45 and 3.27 ratios! beng i dont put my car thru much strip duty i would step away from OEM in this case for the cost factor.

i just got off the phone with Randy's.
Dwain, i asked him the tooth count for you, but he said off hand he doesn't have the info and that the only way to find out would be for him to run to the warehouse and count them. Sorry, I didn't have the heart to ask him to do that . i wanted to know the prices (my main reason for calling) of the 3.7s and the master overhaul kit since the prices arent on their website. he said $350 for the gears and $145 for MOK. i was like ok ill order from reidier racing but decided to try price matching. i asked him and he asked how much i was talkin. i told him the prices for the precision gears that reider sells (299 for the gears and 119.95 for the MOK) he said ok let me see what i can do for you. he came back and said ill get them for you for $344 for both of them. i didnt call with the intent to order, but i couldnt pass up that deal! they should arive in a few days. im happy.

You can't beat that. Did that include new axle bearings and seals also? If not, you can pick them up at Auto Zone for reasonable.
The part # Set-9. You'll need to replace the seals also, available seperately timken part # 710179 for the passenger side (9.99) and 224255 (3.99) for the driver's side.
Also, It'll run you about $14 plus shipping, but I'd get a solid pinion spacer from Ratech. It's pn 4114. It replaces the crush sleeve, and adds strenght and reliability. It adds a little more time in setting up the rear, but with a crush sleeve in your kit they can set the rear up and then pull the pinion and measure the crush sleeve, then shim the pinion spacer to the same length. It just adds one step to the install process, but I think it's worth it.
I also ordered 4 190,000 psi capscrews (bolts) from ARP for the carrier bearing caps. They were just under $20 shipped from ARP and they even sent me a catalog and then a chrismas card.
I figured they were cheap insurance.
I'd test the posi and shim it up tight if needed. You can check my 9bolt Info Post in the FAQ section for all the details. It tells you how to test it and shim it. Larry Burd sells them on here.

Then all you need is your support cover and some good gear oil.
Good Luck!
