4l60e problems, please take a look trans gods
hi guys, i posted this over on s-series.org, since this pertains to my 93 jimmy with its 4l60e, but i thought i would fish for opinions here also, since there are some trans gods around here
problem as follows
well some may remember a while back i posted about my trans acting stupid laggy 2-3 shift, and imediate TC lock then into OD to lock up again, well heres some new info,
bear in mind that when its cold in the morning it seems to shift ok, anywho, i finally got ahold of a multimeter with a tach function, and hooked it up and took off down the highway. at 65 on flat road, and like 1850ish RPM. reach the slightest grade, and it begins to climb rpm, sometimes to nearly 2600, but NEVER kicks down to drive which would occur just after that point. I proved this by manually shifting to 3rd when it was slipping to 2600, and felt a solid thump down to signify the downshift.
heres the wierd part somtimes on a longer grade, even a fairly steep grade, as you get started up but after it slips to towards 2600, it will begin to pull the rpm back down.....
this leads me to believe that the problems are related to pressure, low rpm low pressure, RPm builds up so does pressure thus tightening the hold on the clutches......
so what are your opinions i know there are a few tranny gurus around here somwhere.
oh and for the record, fluid filter and flush in the last 2000 miles,
vehicle has 170,000miles
one other thought
i'm figuring on rebuilding the trans, my big hangup with it is this.......
i'm concerned that it may be some stupid lousy sensor/switch in the trans that costs $10, and doesn't normally get replaced in a rebuild, so i will have spent $850 to have a trans rebuilt and wind up with the same problem.
so on that note, just how much electrical BS is in this stupid transmission??

That is quite a few miles not to have any problems. With that many miles it will most likely be the torque converter lockup clutch not holding. You can add Lube Gard torque converter shudder fix, this might help. The clutch has most likely lost most of its "holding power" due to the high mileage.

Car: 82 ElCamino, looking for a 3rd gen
Engine: 305 TPI(427SB in progress) 730 $8D
Transmission: THM350 (Getting a 4L80E soon)
Axle/Gears: 10 Bolt w/ 2.43 gears :(
Since its a 93 I think there are 2 shift solenoids and a TCC solenoid. Late models 96 and up I believe have a few more solenoids and pressure/temp senders.

are these soleniods typically replaced during a rebuild, if not how much do they cost?, since it will be disassembled during the rebuild that would obviously be the best time to replace if they are bad

the "lock up" clutch is in the the torque convertor right?, so i gotta make sure i get a lockup convertor to retain this feature
correct??
and can anyone confirm the number if electrical doo dads that may be causing my troubles here,
also anyone have an idea what the Labor figure, might be to rebuild one of these, with lets say a heavy duty kit from probuilt
