Speedo cable lube

Have had to lube a couple cables in my lifetime, speed cable lube is getting hard to find. Will LUBRIPLATE WORK FOR THIS ?

Have been using regular speedo lube with graphite and have had to lube the cable in my '86 Caprice three times in about 18 months, that's bull, once should have been a done deal for years.....however the stuff looks pretty runny.

Anyone know of a good substitute that will last ? Lubriplate ?

P.S. Does my '87 and '89 TA both have a speedo cable ?

Thx

Bill

White lithium

Clean it up first... both the cable itself, and flush out the housing

Neither of those cars uses a cable speedo.

Best way to "flush" the housing ?

Spray can engine degreaser; let it sit a while; follow with spray can carb cleaner; blow out with compressed air. Make sure the carb cleaner doesn't get on your paint.

Heh. Graphite is an abrasive.

Kable Ease from Pep Boys. I last did both mine in 1999 or so.

Using Graphite in a speedo cable is like jerking off with sandpaper. (not said from personal experience.) It only works momentarily, and just ends up hurting things.

Almost every speedo cable cable lube you pick up will say liquid graphite or with graphite or something to that effect........:werd:

not that I am aware of.... Yes it may be abrasive to some soft plastics, but not for a metal or hard plastic surface.
