How hard to convert from 4spd to a hyd 5 or 6spd

My dad has an 83 camaro sport coupe it has a 4cylinder with a 4spd behind it. 1983 didn't have the hydraulic setup like the later 5spds and 6spds did. How hard would it be to convert this over to a 5 or a 6 spd. The engine is in the works, 355ci with about 450hp.

Engine: 350 TPI, 2.0turbo, 383 in the works, 289-4BBL, 232, A-head 4-cylinder

Axle/Gears: 3.73, 3.90, 4.88, 3.55, 3.54, 7.00
Not that hard. It's still a 3rd gen.

If you're serious about 450HP I'd skip the 5-speed and go right for the 6-speed T56.

You need the pedals and master/slave assembly to convert the linkage.

No. The pedal assembly is different and will not work.

It's not hard at all. Piece of cake. On the other hand, brain surgery is easy for a brain surgeon, but might be a little challenge for those of us who have no brain at all.

But even without a brain, I managed to convert my 83 from linkage to hydraulics; so I'm sure that if I can manage it, anybody could.

Find a car in the boneyard, and strip it. For a T-5 conversion you'll need to find a V8 car, a 4-cyl or 6-cyl won't do; you'll need the pedal assembly, hydraulics, bell housing with fork, flywheel (which must be the one for whichever rear main seal type your 350 will be), and a few small parts like the reinforcement brackets that go between the pedal pivot bolt and the firewall, and the hardware to hold the master cyl to the firewall.

For a T-56 conversion you'll need the T-56 itself which must be 93-97 (94-97 are the better ones), its bell housing and fork, its hydraulics, and the pedal assembly either from the 94-97 car or from a hydraulic third gen. If your engine is a 2-piece rear main seal type, you'll need the $special conversion flywheel$. No stock one exists that will work.

You'll also need to figure out what you want to do to get your speedometer working again.

You'll need a custom crossmember for the T56 swap.

Definately use the '94-'97 F-body trans (T56). It allows you to use the stock torque arm and driveshaft. You may need to use a stock 700R4 or T5 shaft though, depending on the length of what you have now. I know the early cars are a bit different in this department.

Use the 4th gen F-car torque arm mount too.
