Switch Pitch TC

Not sure if this will get lock and I don't even own an auto but wonder why I never hear of anyone running a switch pitch around here. In Buick land the switch pitch is very popular.

switch pitch is a TC that will launch as say 3500 the switch to 1800-2000 for the rest of the shifts.

Now plz let not start a Buick vs Chevy war but I do not see why it wouldn't work on any GM. they are all related.

[That I have seen.]

Because they are for T400's. When is the last time you saw someone with a switch pitch? Who still sells the parts to convert to one?

It can work in the Pontiac world too...

However, it is old technology and was never designed for higher HP. You can make anything work with enough time and $$$...but this isn't worth it. Not with newer torque converter technology.

the switch pitch is big with them monster led sleds. I have no idea how it works [never seen one] but use to work in a TC shop and a TC is a TC.

They are still big and poular in the Buick world. Everyone seams to be jumping on the band wagon no matter how old it "is" it seams like a smart way to go.

is it special to just that tranny???

Couldn't make one work in a th350???

Course Im not talking drag racing here. It would be better street/strip project.

Why I like having a stick. I can launch as hard as I want and shift where I want.

A 4500 launch with 1800 shifts sound like a neat idea.

The Switch Pitch or Variable Pitch was out in 1965-1967. They came in TH400's (Buick & Cadillac) 13", and in TH300's Buick only 12". We ran many of these (modified) 12' TC's. Parts are very hard to find. There is a place in Texas that works with these and has had good success with them. He had an 11" TC that has about 5,000 high rpm stall and 2,200 low rpm stall, this was a few years back though.

I had thought about going with a switch pitch in my buick, but than I got on a 5-speed "kick" and decided I'm going to swap in a TKO.
Switch pitch stuff in good shape is getting hard to find (or so I've heard).
