Difference between LO3 & LB9 T5's

Is there any difference between the LO3 and LB9 T5's besides the 1st gear ratio(2.95 vs 2.75)?
Larry.

5th gear was .63 (LO3) and .74 (LB9).

If 89 or later, they should both be world class and the 2.95 is probably a little weaker b/c of the multiplying ratio. I'd consider them the same strength and there is definately a difference you can feel with those 2 ratios changed. I believe my LO3 with 3.73s cruises at a lower rpm than my GTA with 3.42s.

GTA @ 80 mph = 3000rpm
LO3 @ 80 mph ~2700-2800rpm

I kind of figured they'd be similar. When I go to the T5 it will be replacing a 2004R that has about the same 1st gear (2.74) as the TPI trans and about the same OD ratio (.67) as the TBI one. I can always change the OD gear. Should only be about 200 RPM difference though on the highway. The 2.75 low should be better with my 3.73 rear gears.
Thanks all.
Larry.

From every thing that I have read and seen, all v8 t5's were 2.95 1st gear, there was some misinformation printed that some had 2.75 first. The only difference is the 5th gear

RPO
m39 transmission .63 OD
MK6 transmission .73 OD

look here

My initial info came from thirdgenresource and showed that the WC TPI T5's from 89-92 were the 2.75 1st. I looked around some more and that's the only one that showed the 2.75. What the heck, eh? I was hoping for the 2.75 but if it doesn't exist then the 2.95 will have to do.
Thanks,
Larry.

Hey Larry, hi from another Manual Monte guy. (we've talked before.)

Don't worry about trying to find the 2.75 first gear boxes. Most of the V8 T5s are 2.95 first / .62 fifth. The first gear WILL feel stronger than the first in the 200-4R. You'll like the 2.95 first gear with the 3.73s just fine.

Thanks, I forgot about the swap you did.
