Just from looking at the thickness of the ring gear it appears you have a 3 series gear to install in a 2 series application. The ring gear can be a snug fit. 2 of my ring gears had to be tapped into place on the posi while the very first one slid right on. When I had my 3.42's installed onto my 2 series posi I had to use a spacer that was apporx. 1/4" thick-but dont quote me since I never actuallt measured it and that's another reason I believe your gear is for a 2 series carrier, both of my recent victims were 3.73's and the ring was'nt that thick. But without having it on front of me it's hard to say since I have'nt measured ring gear thickness. As many as I've gone through this year I should know all there is to know by now, junk azz rears anyways

not all 3:72 gear sets are 3 series, maybe gm 3:73s but not all. you can buy aftermarket gear sets in any ratio for either carrier. draw the ring gear up with the bolts

nah i finally got it to snug down to the base of the carrier, these were oem gm gears by the way.....i just snugged the bolts down with about 1 lb of pressure doing 1/4 a turn on opposing sides and it finally drew down.....now if the ring ever has to come OFF the carrier, thatll prove to be interesting lol
