Help me decode my T-10

Hey all I have an 82 Z28 with a 350 and a factory t-10. Almost done bringing this one back from the dead just a few more things LOL. Anyways I would like to know more about my t-10 ie gear ratios and such I can not find anywhere online to decode it so here are all the numbers I found. I dont remember the location of them so please bear with me

1304 065 903
W.G DIV
FpC3
9-2-81
MLT1004
13 040 66-906 (fifth digit may be a 4, curse my messy writing)
H 31 81

Thanks to all in advance

Bill

Bill, I believe that the T-10 you have will have a very steep first gear in it. It was made that way to help the cars get the gas mileage they needed back then. What it does is allow the rear gear to be very low but still accelerate due to the steep gear in the trans. The only problem is that the first gear is very small in diamater in the trans and will not hold any decent power. A friend of mine had one and kept it just for the good iron case it had. By the way did you ever do anything with the mechanical linkage you had when installing the auto in your car. If you want to get rid of it let me know, I would be interested in it.
Thanks, Ken

Screw all the codes and casting dates and crap. That's too much like work.

Look at the clutch gear splines. There will be either 2, or 1, or 0, grooves cut all the way around the shaft through them.

99.9% of them have 2 grooves. If that's what you've got, it has a 2.56 1st gear. That's the granny 1st in a T-10. The 1-groove version was 2.40something, and the extremely rare 0-groove version had a 2.21 1st or thereabouts.

OBTW if you have a cast-iron case 4-speed out of one of these cars, it's not a T-10; it's a Saginaw. A grocery cart/6-cyl truck POS. Virtually all T-10s, including the ones in the 82 F cars, were aluminum. Only a very small number of them, only available in other cars, had iron cases.

Well thanks for the info. I wound up using the manual setup as is was less expensive for me right now. It does, I believe, have the two rings around it. And it is a T10 it has an aluminum case and reverse is up and left. Any other info would be cool. Again thanks for the help.

two rings
There is no more info to be had, except maybe the ratios of the other gears, which I don't recall off the top of my head (except 4th.... which is 1:1). That's the only thing you need to identify it, right there. Basically you have the usual one.
