9 Bolt pinion spacer
Does any one know of any pinion bearing spacers that are made for the 9 bolt?? I have been searching and no seems to make one. On the FAQ page it mentioned that the 10 bolt one may work but I am told no since the 2 rears do not use the same crush sleeve. I thought Miles had them but he doesn't seem to be answering his emails.

I am about to the point that I'm gonna have to make one if I can't find one anywhere else. I'm thinking that what I'll need to do is setup the rear with a crush sleeve and then remove it and measure it's inner diameter and length. I'll probably short it a fuzz and use shims to fine tune it so I get the proper preload, also making sure that the outer diameter is not too large as well. And of course make sure to use a good grade of steel, probably heat treated. That seems to work in my head.......somebody please correct me if I'm wrong or leaving out anything important.

Drain,
Here is what I am going to do. I am thinking of getting a spacer for a 7.5" rear and machining it down about .030 or so thinner than the new crush sleeve and go from there. I have seen a 9 bolt crush sleeve compared to 10 bolt and the 10 bolt one is thicker(as in the pinion is longer). While on Ratechs website I found that the Ford 8" rear also uses the same crush sleeve, Why could we not use the 8" solid pinion spacer as well??? Any input from anyone else would be great.

not 100% sure but i doubt you need shims o nthe spacer, you'd just need to tighten the nut a bit more to get the preload correct. it wouldn't be hard to make one if you had any machining ability and access to a few machine tools, or even a lathe.

thats what I thought. It would save some time on the machining process. I saw that number this morning when I got off work on their website.
Thanks for the input!!!!

I see no problem at all with what you guys are suggesting. If it fits in there and you can use the proper stackup to get the preload where you want it, should work fine.

Sweet! And kudos for being the guinea pig.
Be sure to let us know the results. I'll add it to my 9bolt info post.
Oh and BTW, even though the carrier bearings for the 9 and 10 bolt are the same, the carrier shims are not. I called reider racing today because I was interested in their adjustable carrier shim kit because it's supposedly easier to use today than regular shims and they said that you have to use the regular style shims in a 9 bolt even though the bearings are the same.
