clutch replacement - flywheel

Should I resurface the flywheel when changing the clutch? Why?

Yeah. You will have high and low spots on the flywheel from the clutch. That needs to be milled flat or you will fry the new clutch pretty quick and have bad problems with slippage. If possible, have it milled, not turned. Milling will give you a flatter surface with less hot spots.

Hope that helps,
Matt

If you want it milled stick with the machine shop. All of them around here charge $70-$125.

thats f-in crazy man.....around here you can get a flywheel milled for 25 bucks.......

having your flywheel resurfanced does a few things,

it makes the entire surface flat and uniform, so that the new clutch disc can wear into its own groove.....not interefere with the one created by the old disc.....

also, it removes alot of heat damaged material that is discolored on the surface.

if the flywheel is in really good shape (not all burned up) you shouldnt have to remove much material
